Dont ever bite your tongue. Do not be misled; I certainly think there are certain circumstances where discretion of speech should be exercised. However, for the most part, what you have to say is just as important as what others have to say. Some people keep quiet for various reasons; avoiding conflict is perhaps the principle reason. Many more are afraid of what others may think and of being judged. I say, who cares what others think about you. They are not in control of your destiny; you are.
When you speak your mind, you are speaking for countless others who are afraid to speak theirs. When you speak your mind, you are building bridges. There is an incredible sense of bravery and fearlessness that comes along with not being afraid to say what is on your mind. Are you brave enough? Understand that your thoughts are very relevant and should be shared. Well, maybe not all of your thoughts but the positive ones for sure. I have always said that there is no such thing as a stupid question or idea. I still stand by that statement with one caveat; the only ideas that are crazy are the ones that are never shared. If you don’t ask, you won’t know.
Exercise your right to speak up! Your thoughts are important yet your words can move mountains. If you have a voice, speak up, even if you have to speak up for someone else or if you have to speak up for something that is not popular. MLK said it best, “if you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything”. Do not allow your fear of speaking to continue to oppress you and others. Once in my life, I practiced silence until I realized the power of speaking up. Today, I walk in the understanding that my voice is mightier than my thoughts. I have learned that my voice can move mountains and if you speak up, so can yours.
