Morning Cup of Joe – Excellence Is A Habit

Several weeks ago I decided to recommit myself to reading more works of the great scholars of old. I have always been fascinated by the way their minds seemed limitless. I decided to take a special trip to a local bookstore to reacquaint myself with a passion I had grown to love, reading. The sad news is I hadn’t even bothered to pick up a book until that day. While in the bookstore, subconsciously I was lead to the works of the great Greek philosopher, Aristotle.

While rummaging through the stacks of books and attempting to breeze through the reading to see if it interests me, I slowed down almost to a halt when I read the following quote. Of the many quotable quotes from Aristotle, the one that stood out the most at the time was “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.” Simply, whatever it is that we repeatedly do inevitably turns into a habit; failure and excellence included.

Your own actions have gotten you to where you are today; good and bad. In order to be great, you have to be willing to do what others won’t do while being consistent and steadfast in achieving your goals. You must be willing to change your ways if you are not getting the results you expect. A habit is formed by doing the same thing day in and day out. Hence, anything that you do consistently, day in and day out, has a great likelihood of turning into a habit.

Your ultimate goal should be to make winning a habit; the only way you can do that is if you win consistently and the only way you can win consistently is if you are not afraid to enter the competition. What has become a habit in your life that you know shouldn’t be? Which habit have you formed that you feel is keeping you from reaching your full potential? You already know the answers to these questions, now work on changing those habits.

At all times focus on the things that you repeatedly do and you’ll develop the power to change your outcomes. You are what you repeatedly do. You were born to win and nothing and no one can change that except for you.
