Morning Cup of Joe – The Extra Effort

Whatever you desire is already yours, you just have to go out and claim it. As simple as that sounds a majority of people have difficulty with this concept. The interesting thing about it is that it applies to your hearts desires, whatever they may be. Whether it’s an employment opportunity, a significant other or even a material item, it is already yours. By claiming it, you are not simply saying it is yours, you have to physically move towards that which you seek.

I have conducted numerous unemployment seminars where some members of the audience were having a tough time finding jobs. When this particular problem eventually comes up, I always ask “How are you looking for employment opportunities?” The response is almost always, “I am at home applying on-line but I’m not getting any traction or any call backs.” There is a clear reason why no one was calling back and it wasn’t because the employer wasn’t interested. It’s primarily due to the fact that human resources departments are bombarded with hundreds if not thousands of applications; you have to figure out how to stand out from the crowd. The good news is it’s not that difficult.

When I was responsible for sourcing through employment applications at a previous company, I would almost always give preferential treatment to the individual who physically came in to my office, although it was ill-advised, to personally drop off their resume and cover letter. I would set-up a mutually convenient interview time right then and there because I admired and fully understood what it takes to stand out from the crowd. A few more reasons why I extended an offer to interview were because I realized and respected the extra effort it took to get professionally dressed, the bravery it took to walk into our office and the energy, time and, in some cases, struggle it takes to physically attempt to meet an opportunity half-way. That’s how you get rewarded, by meeting the opportunity half-way.

If there is something that you desire, whatever it may be, you cannot sit at home hoping it will show up at your doorstep. I can almost guarantee that it will never happen. Be very clear on what you want and do whatever it takes to get it. Anything worth having is not only worth fighting for, it’s also worth chasing.

Go and claim what is already yours.

To The Top!
