No matter your age or where you feel your current progress is in life, you can still be what you’ve always wanted to be and you can still do what you’ve always wanted to do. Your perceived limitations are self-imposed. Once you get passed the initial self-doubt you place on yourself you are able to realize that you can truly do anything you put your mind to it.
When I graduated from college I remember a woman being recognized as the most senior graduate of our class; she was 87 years old when she finally got her college degree. When asked why it took so long, she mentioned how she had to go back home to care for a parent who was ill at the time. She also mentioned that the thought of going back to college to finish what she had started was in the back of her mind for over 60 years and haunted her thoughts often until she mustered up enough courage to go back to school. She didn’t care what others thought about her age and she seemed to have more energy than most 20 year olds.
I learned so much from her that day and still carry some of those lessons with me. She taught me that it truly doesn’t matter how long it takes you to finish something so long as you stay committed until you do. There may be something that you have been putting off completing because you think that your time has passed. I have news for you, it hasn’t! There is no time like the present! Whatever it is you want to do, you absolutely can if you are on this side of the dirt!
If you can start it, you can certainly finish it. We are all guilty of starting countless things but not too many of us can be guilty of finishing what we’ve started. The time is now to go back and revisit that to do list that has been collecting dust and scratch off those items you left on the list. There is no greater feeling than finishing what you’ve started.
George Eliot said it best “It’s never too late to be who you might have been.” The to do list is waiting for you and so is the world!
