Morning Cup of Joe – Success Takes Time

Success takes hard work. Success takes dedication. Success takes commitment. Success takes discipline. Success takes patience. Success takes self-motivation. The one thing that success takes that most people never devote enough of is time; success takes time. All of the success stories you are familiar with did not happen overnight. Every successful business and person devoted their lives to their passion and gave it all they had every single day until they reached what they considered success. Once they reached a high level of success, they understood the importance of working even harder to maintain that success.

Most people lack the necessary patience to be successful. In this microwave society we live in coupled with the need for instant gratification, most people expect success to happen overnight. It doesn’t work that way. Apple is one of the most recognizable brands in the world started by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak on April 1, 1976; almost 4 decades ago. Do you have an iPhone or know someone who does? Let’s take one of the youngest self-made billionaires in the world named Mark Zuckerberg who started Facebook in February 2004; 8 years later he revolutionized the way we keep in touch with our friends. In 1962, the first Wal-Mart opened in Columbus, Georgia; a half-century later they are worth over $194 billion dollars. If we equate success to profits then according to most studies making a business successful is highly unlikely since 90% of new businesses fail within the first 5 years. Also consider the fact that the average business life span is 7 years. Bottom line, it’s a numbers game.

There are a few common characteristics in the aforementioned success stories; time, commitment and the belief in oneself necessary to experience success. Commit to memory that success happens one day at a time. When you build a house, you build it brick by brick. Your dreams are no exception. Your dreams are not manifested by rubbing on a magic lamp. You must dedicate your life to ensuring that it happens; sadly most people won’t. Most people want to be successful but aren’t willing to put in neither the time nor effort to get a return on their investment. By the time most people are about to hit their proverbial peak, they typically give up.

Please understand that you cannot rush success. What you can do is work hard every single day until the right opportunity presents itself. Build your dream brick by brick. Be patient while maintaining the belief that your success is inevitable. Remember, it’s a numbers game; if you can outlast the clock you will be successful. If you don’t give up when the going gets tough, you will be successful. If you unequivocally believe that it can happen and follow that belief with passion, hard work and dedication then you will in fact be successful.
