Morning Cup of Joe – Stay The Course

20130911-071148.jpg

Nearly 18 months ago, I travelled over 1500 miles by car leaving behind people, places and things in search of something new, exciting and different. This morning is unlike any other morning I’ve ever had in my entire life; this morning I woke up enlightened and wanted to share that with you. Truthfully, every morning is different and is essentially based on our perception and reception of the day which makes it a gift. I digress because this message isn’t particularly about that. This morning, I want to emphasize the importance of persistence. It is critically important that you maintain a high level of persistence in the face of danger; persistence in the face of uncertainty and persistence in the face of doubt.

The key to success is staying the course and seeing a goal through to the end. Throughout the entire 1500 mile pilgrimage, one single thought continued to rewind and play over and over again in my head; “If I keep driving, sooner or later, I’ll reach my destination”. There is so much we all can and should learn from my journey. The main lesson is, stay the course! On my way to my final destination, I encountered traffic; I watched fellow road warriors get pulled over by police officers and issued speeding tickets and I even witnessed several serious car accidents. One can reasonably parallel this road trip experience to similar experiences in our lives.

Essentially, in life we are going to experience some obstacles, trials and tribulations along the way toward the achievement of our goals. The key thing to remember is that if we stay focused on the end result, the chances of accomplishing that specific result is extremely favorable; almost 100% of the time. Keep in mind that as long as you keep grinding, keep driving and stay focused, eventually you too will reach the finish line. The goal is to not stop driving; to not stop moving; to stay busy and to work diligently until your desired end result is realized. It can be done if you stay the course.

Don’t stop until you have reached the top.

Morning Cup of Joe – FINISH STRONG!

20130906-073514.jpg

Don’t ever start something you aren’t willing to maintain and eventually finish. It takes little to no effort to start something, perhaps that explains why so many people have so many great starts. This theory is also applicable to Olympic runners awaiting the sound of the starters’ gun. Many times, the person who takes off first or the fastest off the block isn’t always the one who ends up with the gold medal at the end of the race. The person who wins is typically the one who finishes strong.

No one will remember how you started but the world will never forget how you finished. If you are going to exhaust effort on anything affiliated with your dreams, I encourage you to focus intently on finishing. I am guilty of not finishing a few things that I’ve started, we all are. The goal is to develop and strengthen the skill of follow-through. Following through with the careful execution of any goal is the greatest gift you can give yourself.

There is an unexplainable feeling that you experience when you accomplish anything. The ultimate goal is to experience this feeling early and often. There is a way to accomplish this. Step one, finish strong. It doesn’t matter how you start, it’s how you finish that matters. It’s funny what our minds have the capability of retaining. As I write this, all I hear is an old friend’s voice echoing, “Finish Strong!” I choose to finish what I start and so should you or don’t bother starting it at all.

Be a finisher and finish strong.

Morning Cup of Joe – Results May Vary

20130726-065320.jpg

He stands in front of the mirror wondering if anything has changed or improved. Staring at himself intently, he starts to imagine what the final results will look like. He wishes there was some magic button he could press that would magically place the muscles where they perfectly fit but unfortunately that button hasn’t yet been invented. The actual twenty minutes felt like a twenty days as he wondered why he wasn’t seeing any immediate results.

We have all been down this road before; you’re doing the right things, working as hard as you can and feel as if you should be seeing results sooner than you actually have. It is critically imperative that you learn to develop the patience of a turtle and the determination of a starving lion hunting for prey in order to be successful. This combination will undoubtably produce immaculate results. In addition to patience and determination, you must learn to develop the work ethic of a champion. If you ask any world class athlete or Olympian what it takes to be great, they will tell you practice and discipline. While some Olympians are born with natural gifts, the other 99% practices until it is perfect then they practice some more.

What the man in the mirror is not considering is the immense amount of time, effort, discipline and dedication it takes to produce incredible results. Some things can happen overnight but the only thing that comes to my mind is sleep. It is important that you set realistic expectations that you are able to exceed. It will take hard work, dedication, persistence, patience and patience. Yes, you need that much patience. Take it from me, the breakthrough and/or goal you are attempting to reach will come to fruition in due time; you cannot rush success. Remain steadfast and committed to accomplishing your goals, whatever they may be.

Remember to appreciate the journey, especially since you already know the final destination. The only thing you can do is take it one day at a time. Sooner than later, you will win. It may not be tomorrow but it will happen if you stay committed.

Morning Cup of Joe – Sticktoitiveness

20130717-065401.jpg

When you set out to accomplish a goal it is critically important that you stick with it and see it through to completion. Now, re-read the first sentence a few more times. Most of the time when we take the initiative to start something, it is almost certain that we are going to be met with obstacles; some of which we cannot avoid. The goal is to simply focus on what matters most; finishing and finishing strong. Remember, it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish that matters most.

It costs you absolutely nothing to create a goal nor does it cost you anything to have the desire to pursuit a dream. The cost that you must consider when you are attempting to make your dreams come true is the price you are willing to pay to make certain that they do. Sweat equity is what you must be willing to invest in order to see a positive end result. Your goals are truly an arm’s reach away but you cannot get to them if you’re sitting down. Stand up and chase your dreams. Do not stop until you get them and even after that, keep going.

The road to success will seem long and at times bumpy but commit to memory the fact that you were born to win. I firmly believe that you were not put on this earth to lose. You were put on this earth to make an impact on the world around you. We all have a purpose in life; the goal is to discover yours then share it with the world. Do not think about the journey, simply focus on the destination. It doesn’t matter how you get there, just get there.

Remember, anyone can set a goal but it takes a winner to complete one.

Morning Cup of Joe – A Brilliant Mind

20130710-064426.jpg

An idea is worthless if it is trapped in your head. The only way you can profit from an idea is if you share it with the world. Most of us wait until an idea is perfect before we share it. Unfortunately for some, the idea will never be perfect enough to share. We work out the details until it is crystal clear yet continue to create flaws in the design. Take it from me; your ideas are ready for launch. If they aren’t, they simply won’t take off.

You are and always will be your worst critic. Understand that no one will scrutinize your ideas as much as you will; that’s a good thing. The fact that some of you are waiting for the “right” moment before you share your billion dollar idea simply baffles me. News Flash! There is no such thing as a perfect time to do anything. The perfect time is when you decide to act; the perfect time is now!

Your goal is to not keep your ideas to yourself; if you do, the world around you will continue to lose out on the opportunity to benefit from your brilliance. Your ideas could save lives, time and even alter the world as we know it. Imagine what life would be like if Mark Zuckerberg said, “I’ll keep facebook to myself and not share it with the world until it’s absolutely perfect”. Today, most of us cannot imagine life without facebook.

Don’t be afraid to share and execute your ideas; ask yourself, what do I have to lose? The answer will always be, nothing at all.

Morning Cup of Joe – Road to Success

20130703-000538.jpg

Problems are actually opportunities in disguise. It is critically important that you start to recognize the opportunity in your problems. Whatever the issue, you certainly cannot compare it to the end of the world. Yes, the end of the world is a bit drastic but compared to that, do you really have any problems? I’ll answer for you; no, you truly don’t. The opportunity that inevitably arises from overcoming an obstacle is what you should always remain focused on; not the problem itself. Learn to look pass the problem to find the opportunity.

Think back to a time in your life when you encountered a difficulty and how you overcame that difficulty. What did you do to overcome that particular obstacle? What is it about you specifically that made you overcome that obstacle? The answers these questions should serve as a “How to” guide to fixing your problems. The fact that you have not experienced a similar difficulty is proof that you have learned the particular lesson you were meant to learn through that experience. Even if you did experience it again, there’s a valuable lesson learned in every human experience.

Embrace the obstacles that may come your way as they are designed to increase our awareness that we are going down the right path. Most roads that are travelled are laden with bumps; the road to success is not exempt. The tools you need to get over this hump are the same tools you used to get over the last one; the only difference is the problem itself. Opportunities come several times a day, it’s up to you to recognize them as opportunities and chase after them no matter the cost. More problems means more opportunities.

Morning Cup of Joe – The Time is NOW!

20130702-061200.jpg

More often than not, we waste energy on things of little to no importance. Granted many of those things may seem important to the person expending the energy but in reality it does not hold as much weight and authority as one may give them. In addition to the authority a person gives their problems, the incredible amount of energy spent on non-factors reduces the time you could be investing into resolving your issue or accomplishing a particular goal.

It is imperative that you take the initiative to organize your life today. By organize, I don’t mean have every single detail planned out; although that would be ideal. By organize; I am referring to creating a mental picture. Simply, have a clear picture of where you want to be in the future and begin working on making it a reality.Time is truly of the essence; invest more time focused on building your dream.

Once you have a clear mental picture of your desired future, you must now drill down to the details. Drilling down to the details requires you to write down clear objectives and establish “must-outcomes”. Must-outcomes are outcomes that must occur no matter what may try to stand in your way. I separate goals into two categories; desired-outcomes and must-outcomes. It is possible to accomplish goals on both lists, if you focus intently on it.

Reorganize and Reexamine Your Priorities. Accomplishing your goals takes precedence over everything else. Stop wasting time on things that don’t matter and start investing more time into building your dreams.

Morning Cup of Joe – Who’s On Your Side?

20130626-061650.jpg

This may come as a shock to some but there are people who do not want to see you succeed. I would even go so far as to say that there are some who even pray for your failure. In some cases, these same people are disguised as friends and/or supporters; all the while they are secretly hoping that you miss your mark. I am here to tell you that their opinions don’t matter.

People are going to establish their own opinions about you, most of which are going to be negative and against you; expect it. Others may even be bold enough to publicly cheer against you. As a winner, you must learn to develop blinders that keep you focused on the task at hand and not on the ill-wishers. It is unrealistic to expect that everyone will be on your side; work as if it’s just you and God.

Although others opinions about us failing should not matter, we should use those words as motivation. You can turn any bit of information into the fuel necessary to drive you to accomplish your goals. What motivates me most is when someone believes that I can’t do something. I’ve eliminated the ‘apostrophe t’ from my vocabulary and so should you; specifically the word can’t. There will be people who will think that you cannot win and there will be people who will hope to see you lose; your only mission is to prove them wrong.

When you prove people wrong, you are proving who was right all along. The only person in control of your destiny is YOU!

Morning Cup of Joe – Belief System

20130603-071049.jpg

If you want something bad enough you have to believe you are going to get it before it shows up. Recently, I was reminded of this fact when my thoughts were intently focused on something in particular and although my thoughts eventually became a reality, it was not by magic. The amazing thing is that the universe works in favor of those who put effort into that which they seek. Maintain a stern belief that your thoughts will come to pass and they certainly will.

The first step to creating and realizing any goal or dream is to maintain an unwavering belief that the goal or dream will be accomplished. Believe it then see it not the other way around. Not only is maintaining a strong belief important, we must also consider other critical elements in the chain of events that eventually leads to the accomplishment of that dream; effort and time. Basically, believe that it will happen then put effort towards making it happen and it inevitably will.

Your mind has the power and incredible ability to create anything it wants, yes anything. If you think about something hard enough it will eventually fall into your lap. Understand that it may take anywhere from one day to many years to finally realize that which has been occupying your mind space. It is always worth the wait. The goal is to not stop until you get what you’ve been thinking about while working towards ensuring that it absolutely does. Now that you understand the importance of belief, effort and time; I challenge you to share this knowledge with others. You may change a life.
