Morning Cup of Joe – Road Less Traveled

There are no accidents. There are no coincidences. Everything that happens in your life happens as it is designed to happen. While some may say that the aforementioned claim lacks credibility, I challenge them to prove differently. Everything that has happened in your life up to this point has gotten you where you are today; the trials, tribulations and triumphs have all been part of your design.

Your successes and failures have also contributed to your current state. Do not be misled, for the most part, where we are today is a direct result of the sum of the choices we’ve made in our lives; good and bad. The thing about choices is that when we choose, it simply means we have options. Imagine driving down an unfamiliar path when suddenly you run into a fork in the road; you cannot go straight, you have two options, left or right. The choice you make will ultimately determine where you end up. Choose, don’t just sit there and wait for a sign. The choice you make will always be the right one for you.

Don’t be afraid to try a route you’ve never traveled; you truly never know where it might lead. Some people restrict from making choices because they don’t know what might happen. This may come as a surprise to some but you will never know what might happen if you never take a chance. Remember the fact that there are no accidents, so no matter what choices you decide to make, know that it is a part of the ultimate plan.

Morning Cup of Joe – Prayer Works

When our prayers aren’t answered, we blindly attribute it to the fact that it may have not happened because God didn’t allow it or maybe that it simply wasn’t meant to be. Realize that some of our minds are programmed to automatically find excuses to failed attempts at something, in many cases restricting us from attempting it again. What we almost never do is pinpoint the real reason why our dreams aren’t coming true. We must become primary stakeholders in the pursuit of our own dreams and goals. If it doesn’t work out, stop blaming everything and everyone else; point the finger at the beholder of the dream.

When our outcomes aren’t favorable learn to take full responsibility. Stop blaming it on the possibility that it was not meant to be. Maybe you didn’t do enough to get it. Maybe you didn’t go as far as you know you are capable of going. Maybe the problem isn’t the problem after all. Maybe the problem is you. Start taking responsibility for the results your actions produce. It is not that God didn’t allow it. In many cases, the plan is ready to be executed but the executor simply gives up on what is considered feeble attempts.

Stop playing around and get serious about accomplishing your dreams. While you are sitting around thinking about what could be, winners are already out there making it what it is. Join the Winners Circle; there aren’t too many of us, yet there is always room for more. All it takes is accepting the blame for your misfortunes, picking yourself up off the ground and remembering that forward progress is the only acceptable direction. Well that and to the top.

Please remember that faith without works is dead. You can pray all you want to but until you start to do something about it, your prayers will seem as if they fall on deaf ears. Go claim what is rightfully yours!

Morning Cup of Joe – Eternal Optimist

Is there any good left in the world? The answer to this question is a bit tough to respond to especially when the news outlets tend to focus more on the negative things than they do the positive. If you watch the news, you would think that there is nothing but evil out there. Every day seems like a repeat of the one before; especially when it seems as if the news reports have created an equation with a negative outcome which includes a fire, a murder, a robbery and a kidnapping.

The light at the end of the tunnel suggests that you can do something about it. If you feel sad or down after you watch the news, don’t watch it. It really is that simple. One may ask “Well, how else will I know what is going on in the world?” Before televisions, there were newspapers. I haven’t watched the news in years specifically for that reason. It’s not that I don’t want to know what is going on in the world, it’s more so the fact that I find alternative routes that assist me in maintaining a positive mental attitude. The best way to accentuate the positive is to eliminate or limit your intake of negativity.

I do believe that there is still some good left in the world. I also believe that there are still some good, caring and loving people left in the world. Although it’s not the highlight of the nightly news report, there are people doing good for others on a daily basis. You can join this crowd, we have plenty of room. If you want to see more good, you have to do more good. I have not lost faith in humanity although some events and actions of others cause me to question my faith. I remain faithful and hopeful.

Eliminate the “every man for himself” mentality that most people seem to have adopted nowadays. We must share the world and are responsible for one another. If you see your brother or sister in need, lend a helping hand. It could have easily been you begging for spare change. Some of us are a paycheck away from that reality anyway. There is light in every bit of darkness. There is hope in every bit of despair. Today, choose to be the light of the world by illuminating hope in the lives of others.

I am an eternal optimist. That does not mean that I view the world through rose colored lenses. It simply means that I refuse to give up hope that one day things will get better. Perhaps that day is today.

Morning Cup of Joe – Get What We Want

Sometimes we have to put up with things that we don’t like in order to get what we want. Sometimes we have to do things that we don’t want to do in order to get what we want. Sometimes we have to put our pride aside in order to get what we want. The question I have for you is what are you willing to do to get what you want?

One thing that should never change is you as an individual, your core values and your self-respect. Simply, you shouldn’t change who you are or compromise your beliefs just to get what you want. If you want something, you shouldn’t have to change who you are to get it. Your values are what guide your principles which influence your actions. You should never compromise your self-respect or self-worth just to get what you want. There are long-term consequences for every ill-advised decision we make.

When it comes to accomplishing your goals, realizing your dreams or simply getting what you want, your aim should always remain constant while you reevaluate your strategy. The end goal is to have that which you desire, in some cases and within reason, by any means necessary. If you want something and you haven’t gotten it yet, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist nor does it mean that it’s unattainable; it simply means that you haven’t figured out the combination to the lock.

Be patient and continue to work hard while maintaining the unwavering belief that what you want you will soon have.

Morning Cup of Joe – Mustard Seed Faith

When we set out to do something great or accomplish a goal, it seems as if the world’s obstacles are placed in your path. In my opinion, that is a great sign. Anything worth having does not come easily. In fact, anything worth having is certainly worth fighting for. It takes work, sometimes extremely hard work but it is certainly going to be worth it in the end. When was the last time you gave something your all? What were the results? Challenging or not, face every challenge with optimism and maintained a strong sense of faith that you can overcome any obstacle that is in your way.

A majority of dreams that are never realized are due to the dreamers’ lack of faith. You cannot reasonably expect to accomplish your goals if you lack the faith that keeps you afloat. You are the vessel that drives the dream and faith is the navigator. It is difficult to get where you want to go without the necessary faith and unwavering belief that you will get there. Time plays no factor here. It matters not how long it takes for you to accomplish a goal just as long as you hold on and keep fighting until you reach your desired outcome.

Faith is believing in things unseen yet working feverishly as if it was right in front of you. The reason I believe most successful people experience continuous success is a combination of not allowing quitting nor failure to be an option and having enough faith in their abilities to make it happen. If you are having trouble moving your mountain, all you need is faith the size of a mustard seed. I am not sure if you have ever seen a mustard seed but it is extremely small. If that is all the faith you need to get through your trials and tribulations then you should not have anything to worry about.

Stop looking at your obstacles as insurmountable. If you are going to beat the odds, you have got to have a little faith.

Morning Cup of Joe – Through The Storm

Is anybody out there? I remember growing up in Miami and witnessing the wrath and devastation of Hurricane Andrew in 1992. That was my first experience with a serious storm so I did not really understand the severity or potential damage it could cause. I have always been very curious, and although curiosity kills cats I figured I was safe because I’m human. My entire family and I hunkered down in my parents’ bedroom when suddenly my curiosity led me to the window. I pulled back the curtain and watched as the Category 5 hurricane uprooted an oak tree that was in front of my neighbor’s yard with the ease of a gardener pulling weeds and slammed it on their car nearly splitting in half.

The next morning, after the storm had passed, we all ventured out to see the damage and devastation left behind by Andrew. Some places were hit harder than others but everyone experienced some sort of damage. Almost everyone was without power, trees and debris riddled the streets and most roads were impassable. After that experience I simply thanked God for seeing us through the storm.

Storms by acts of nature are similar to the personal storms we experience in our own lives. Sometimes you have to simply wait until it passes. Just like you prepare for an ensuing storm by stocking up on nonperishable items from your local grocery store, boarding up your home and having a healthy supply of drinking water you must prepare for the storms that may occur in your life by stocking up on faith. You must have faith that you can make it through any storm before your faith is met with reality. What you do not allow to kill you will always make you stronger. Keep the faith.

Sometimes you have to simply wait until your storm passes before you can see the sun shine again. No matter what storm you are going through, have faith and hold on to the fact that change is coming.

Morning Cup of Joe – Why Me?

20121018-071915.jpg

Sometimes I ask God why me. I ask why do I face the challenges I face. I ask why does it seem as if bad things always happen to good people. I ask why must I continue to experience constant trials and tribulations. And I ask why have I yet to experience my inevitable breakthrough.

The response I always get in my spirit is simply, if God didn’t think you could handle it, He would’ve chosen someone else to be a testimony of His greatness. I also understand that no matter the adversity, turmoil or trouble you are facing, understand that can and you will make it through. Failure is not an option. Quitting is not an option. Losing hope is not an option. Your only option is to continue to push forward.

The main engine operating your life’s vehicle is hope. Once you lose hope in a better tomorrow, the sun will not seem to shine as bright, a flower loses its natural beauty and the incredible music that birds make fall on deaf ears. You must focus on a better tomorrow no matter how difficult your today is.

You have a choice to make among several different options. You can either choose to cry or run. You can choose to let your problems continue to overcome you. You can choose to continue to let tribulations outweigh the obvious blessings in your life. Or you can choose today to adopt a mindset of nothing is going to stop you from accomplishing your goals and making your dreams come true. The choice is clear.

Thank God right now for choosing you to go through this test. How else can you be a testimony? What you don’t allow to kill you will only make you stronger. You are still alive for a reason. This too shall pass and once it does, you will be stronger as a result of it. Forward progress only.

Anything worth having does not come easily, it takes work. Seeing your dreams come true takes hard work yet it is worth it in the end. When was the last time you gave something your all? What were the results? My third year in the real estate business was perhaps my toughest. I was given an assignment to sell out a 536 unit condo conversion. What my manager did not tell me was that the previous six sales people who were given that assignment failed miserably. I accepted the assignment with optimism and maintained a strong sense of faith throughout the duration of the project.

In less than 9 months, with hard work and the belief in myself required to endure, I was able to sell out the entire five hundred plus unit complex. Faith is believing in things unseen yet working feverishly as if it was right in front of you. The reason I believe I was successful is a combination of not allowing quitting nor failure to be an option and having enough faith in my abilities to make it happen.

Morning Cup of Joe – The Dream Killers

What I have come to understand at this point in my journey is that most people truly don’t want to see you succeed. It is lonely at the top and misery loves company at the bottom. The group you choose to join will determine your ultimate outcomes. Both groups have plenty of space, choose wisely. We’ve been around these types of people before, if we haven’t been them ourselves; the type of person that starts hating on others accomplishments. When they see someone else doing well, they wish them more harm than good. The sad thing about it is that they have yet to realize why they have not experienced any success themselves. The reason is two fold; if you do not celebrate others successes you will never have an opportunity to have the tables turned and also because they cannot get past the fact that someone else is doing better than they are. Oddly enough, they never stop to ask what that person had to go through to get to where they are. I have appropriately coined these types of people as dream killers.

There are dream killers all around us. These dream killers attempt to deter you from pursuing your dreams because of their fear of following theirs. Dream killers can barely see what the next hour has in store let alone the next day. Dream killers cannot stand and cheer while the other fellow stars. Dream killers want what they are not willing to work for so they try to discourage your efforts. Do not allow dream killers to kill your dreams and redirect your focus from your vision. A vision is simply a glimpse into a future that you can create. Dream killers lack vision. At all times, focus on your dreams and desires and be sure to keep your blinders up.

No matter the details of your precious dreams and accomplishable goals, pursue them at all cost. There will be times when the words of dream killers sound more inviting than an RSVP, decline their invitation and push forward. There will be times when the road seems so filled with obstacles that you’d be better off just stopping, mash on the gas and keep driving. There will be days when you feel like giving up, keep going for one day you will cross the finish line and claim the victory that was yours to begin with. Keep in mind that the victory isn’t nearly as important as the fight that you make to win. Don’t give up. Don’t listen to the doubters. Don’t listen to the dream killers. Don’t stop believing in yourself.

Success is not easy, never was, never will be but success will be yours if you continue to believe in the beauty of your dreams. Tomorrow isn’t promised to those who have no faith or belief in the possibility that dreams come true.

Morning Cup of Joe – Dear God

Dear God,
I know you can hear me. I know you’re listening because you’ve answered my prayers before. I come to you with a humble heart asking you to place a hedge of protection around your children. There are some who are really hurting right now. There are others who are starting to doubt your existence and your power. There are even more who are simply ready to give up. God, I know that you are omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient because you have shown me time and time again. The same favor you have shown and continue to show me, I am asking that you show that favor to the person reading these words.

I know you are able because at the tender age of thirteen I was ready to take my own life but you had other plans for me. When I was homeless and had no place to go, you introduced me to a program called Bridge Tomorrow with a house mom who cared enough about me to expect great things. When I did not know which direction my life was going, you became my compass. When I needed you the most, you were there. Even when I don’t deserve it, you continue to bless me abundantly. I am thankful for your favor, your guidance, your blessings and your everlasting love.

God, some of your children need a miracle today. While I fully understand the magnitude of such a request, I believe that you are able. A miracle to us is a simple act by you. You have performed countless miracles in my life and I am praying that you do the same in the lives of those who are expecting it. I unequivocally believe in your power to make a way out of seemingly no way. I thank you in advance for answering this prayer and the prayers of your children. You said that you would never leave nor forsake us and I believe that. I remain humble and patient as you work to rearrange things so that ultimately your will is done.

This is my prayer and I humbly await your response.

Amen

**

Friend,
Whatever it is you are going through trust God through it all. Your pain is temporary and your trouble won’t last long, He is able. Hold on to that thought and expect your miracle.
