Morning Cup of Joe – Overcome

20131118-070955.jpg

The incredible strength some develop as a result of achieving in spite of the devastating events that may have occurred in one’s life is directly related to the fact that they never gave up hope that one day they would find a way out. It is also related to the fact that if you must win then quitting can never be an option. One additional major factor some people ignore is the fact that many times the trials we face are simply to test our will and endurance. What most people fail to understand is that whatever it is you are going through, it is because God knows that you are equipped to handle it.

Understand that God will never give us more than we can handle even if it seems like the problem is insurmountable. The thoughts of a successful person is to always figure a way out of their circumstances by constantly focusing on solutions rather than the problem that is in front of them. All problems have within them a solution and are meant to be solved; no exceptions. When you feel like giving up, focus on the fact that you are experiencing turmoil because you will be stronger once you overcome it. You have within you the ability to overcome any and all obstacles. Do you believe that? You should.

It is imperative that you understand that what does not kill you will only make you stronger. Simply, death as a result of your circumstances, which is the worst case scenario, is the only obstacle that is impossible to overcome. If you do not die as a result of your circumstances then you would have gained incredible strength as a result of that experience. Fortunately, most problems will not kill you. Moreover, the problems we face are designed for us to overcome them. That is how strength is developed; by outlasting and overcoming your obstacles.

All mazes have one entrance and one exit. If you are currently trapped in the proverbial maze of life, simply continue to walk until you find the exit. You may run into dead ends, turn around and try another route. Eventually, if you don’t give up, you will find your way out.

Morning Cup of Joe – The Battle Is Not Yours

20130823-072741.jpg

You’re going to have people who are going to mess with you, test you and try to throw you off course. There will be some people who blatantly disrespect you. Believe it or not, there are some people who truly don’t want to see you succeed. These same people will try to push as many of your buttons as they can until one eventually releases you from who you are.

Recently, I almost allowed someone to take me there. You know, take me to a place my mother wouldn’t be proud of. I immediately thought about a message a close mentor and friend shares with me often; “Never allow someone else to set your thermostat”. In the heat of the battle, this is one of the toughest things to recall and initiate. Remember, just because someone else is disrespectful to you doesn’t mean you should respond reciprocally; never allow someone else to make you lose your cool.

Before I allowed myself to go there, I silently called out to God and asked for him to fight this battle. I didn’t ask him to help me. That’s where many of us go wrong; we ask God to help us win the battle. Sometimes we have to step aside and let God fight the battle. Simply, give it to God. To some, this may sound preposterous because one may think that you should be the catalyst in finding solutions to your problems. I agree to some degree but know that every battle isn’t yours to fight.

If you trust God, he will never disappoint you. Turn your seemingly unwinnable battles over to Him; He’s accustomed to winning.

Morning Cup of Joe – Power & Authority

20130716-071223.jpg

There are so many people who truly don’t understand the amount of power and authority they give to their problems. The power they give to their problems is so much greater than the power they give to their blessings. In many cases, the blessings bestowed upon you up to this day are far greater than the problems you’ve experienced yet most will give their problems more authority than their blessings. When you compare the two, I would dare to say that you have had more good things happen in your life than bad. Focus on the good.

While we may be doing many things right, for some, all it takes is one bad thing to interrupt the ebb and flow of the pursuit of perfection. Always ask yourself, “What am I supposed to learn from this experience?” When negative things inevitably happen to us, it is critically important that we spend as little time as possible focused on the problem. Most people allow their problems to seem bigger than they really are. The goal is to redirect your attention and focus to what matters most; self-improvement.

It is imperative that you invest as much time and energy into counting your blessings and as little time as possible on things that you constantly worry about and cannot control. After all, worrying doesn’t change nor solve anything. Worrying about your problem is certainly not going to fix it. Worrying about your problem is not going to change the fact that you still have a problem. The goal should be not to waste precious time worrying when you could be using that same time and energy to find a solution to your problem.

Do not allow one negative event to overshadow all the positive ones in your life.

Morning Cup of Joe – One Man Army

20130627-071910.jpg

There may come a day when you reach out and call someone but they do not answer. There may come a day when you really need help but no one is around to hear your cry. There may come a day when you are at wits end and just need a friend but no friends are available to come to your rescue. The world can be a lonely place sometimes. When that happens, learn to depend on the only person you’ve been able to depend on your entire life; yourself.

Having to fend for yourself is not easy; trust me, I know. Obviously you can be more effective if you have “back-up” or at least one more soldier on the battlefield with you but that will not always be the case. Some battles are simply yours to fight and certainly yours to win. When you start to feel as if you are the only person who cares about your situation, although you can’t see Him, you are not alone. In essence, even if it seems as if the world has given up on you, God never will.

Learn to depend on yourself. You cannot realistically expect for others to forever be there for you during your time of need. Sometimes we have to pick ourselves up from our bootstraps, dust our shoulders off and keep on truckin’. Please understand that you are not going to enter every war with an army. There may come a time when your entire military consists of an army of one; you.

When it feels like the world has turned its back on you, walk in the understanding that you serve a God that is capable of anything. With God on your side, you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Morning Cup of Joe – The Longest Storm

One thing I’ve been fortunate enough to learn throughout my life’s journey is that trouble truly doesn’t last always. Simply, whatever it is you are going through is as temporary as a passing storm. The longest storm that I know about lasted forty days and forty nights. What you should consider is the fact that on the forty-first day, the sun did shine. Your goal is to last until and even past the forty-first day.

We have all experienced a form of chaos in our lives, perhaps to different degrees but we have experienced it nonetheless. Think back to a time, even if it was recent, where you thought that your problem was the biggest problem in the world. How did you overcome that problem? What did you have to do to overcome your situation? Repeat those steps and the outcome will be no different. The man with no arms envies the man with no legs. The man with no legs envies the man who cannot see. The man who cannot see envies the man who cannot hear. My point is, no matter what it is you are going through, there is someone else who is a little worse off. No, that doesn’t improve your situation but it puts it into perspective.

Understand that trouble is temporary. We were built to conquer and to rise above all obstacles. Draw on the strength that you have hidden somewhere inside you to overcome this minor obstacle. I say minor obstacle because the only obstacle that is difficult to overcome is death. If you can read this, you can overcome any obstacle. The first step is believing that your problems are not greater than your strength to overcome them.

Do you believe? You should.

Morning Cup of Joe – Why Me?

20121018-071915.jpg

Sometimes I ask God why me. I ask why do I face the challenges I face. I ask why does it seem as if bad things always happen to good people. I ask why must I continue to experience constant trials and tribulations. And I ask why have I yet to experience my inevitable breakthrough.

The response I always get in my spirit is simply, if God didn’t think you could handle it, He would’ve chosen someone else to be a testimony of His greatness. I also understand that no matter the adversity, turmoil or trouble you are facing, understand that can and you will make it through. Failure is not an option. Quitting is not an option. Losing hope is not an option. Your only option is to continue to push forward.

The main engine operating your life’s vehicle is hope. Once you lose hope in a better tomorrow, the sun will not seem to shine as bright, a flower loses its natural beauty and the incredible music that birds make fall on deaf ears. You must focus on a better tomorrow no matter how difficult your today is.

You have a choice to make among several different options. You can either choose to cry or run. You can choose to let your problems continue to overcome you. You can choose to continue to let tribulations outweigh the obvious blessings in your life. Or you can choose today to adopt a mindset of nothing is going to stop you from accomplishing your goals and making your dreams come true. The choice is clear.

Thank God right now for choosing you to go through this test. How else can you be a testimony? What you don’t allow to kill you will only make you stronger. You are still alive for a reason. This too shall pass and once it does, you will be stronger as a result of it. Forward progress only.

Morning Cup of Joe – Strength To Carry On

How strong are you? Are you strong enough to make it through your season of unhappiness or will you allow your problems to overpower you? Do you realize where your strength comes from? Are you aware that your strength derives from your ability to overcome obstacles? Are you aware that the more obstacles you overcome the stronger your will becomes? Did you know that you are stronger than you actually believe you are?

I ask you these questions because it seems to me that you have forgotten how far you’ve truly come. Think back to a few of your first trials or tribulations. Clearly you overcame them but how did you do it? The same amount of effort, tenacity and courage it takes to overcome one obstacle is the same amount it takes to overcome the next. In fact, it gets easier. Well, it absolutely should get easier because you have been down that road before. What happens when we repeatedly travel down a road or path? We simply know the ins and outs of that road and no longer require a map. Furthermore, we become so familiar and comfortable with our destination that we may even start taking shortcuts to arrive at the same destination. Solving your problems follows a similar formula.

Pick yourself up by your bootstraps, dust yourself off and stop feeling sorry for yourself. You seemed to have forgotten how strong you actually are. This temporary cloud hanging over your head may not move anytime soon so you must make the conscious decision to move from under that cloud or continue to get soaked by the rain caused by your problems. Make your move! Today is a new day and this new day presents the option to continue to wallow in your sorrow or do something about it.

Your strength is determined by the number of obstacles you overcome. The more obstacles you overcome, the stronger you’ll become.
