Morning Cup of Joe – Free Your Mind

Knowing what you have to do and not doing it is what I call crazy. I must use the adjective crazy simply because you know yet you refuse to act. It’s sort of like knowing the answer to a question on a test yet failing to bubble anything in. Do you get credit because you know the answer or because you bubbled in the correct answer? Knowing is simply not enough, your knowledge must be followed by consistent actions. Bad habits produce negative results and the opposite is also true. Learn to develop habits that produce positive results. If you want to live your best life now, you have to literally start living it.

On this journey towards success you must continue to ask who and possibly what continues to hold you back? We all know the answer to this question; obviously you are the only one who can keep yourself from achieving your dreams. We control our own destiny. We hear it often yet very few of us believe it enough to act on it. I challenge you to start acting as if you control your own destiny. The sooner you develop a bullet-proof belief mindset that encourages actions which include intense focus on accomplishing every goal you set to achieve, the sooner life can be a beach chair.

An average mind-set will always produce average results. If you want to win, learn how to develop a winner’s mentality. A winner’s mentality is such that we enter a battle uncertain of the final results yet maintain a strong belief in knowing we will ultimately win. That’s a winner’s secret; knowing you will win no matter the circumstances and outcomes. The best way to develop an above-average mind-set is by increasing the above-average input into your central processing unit or CPU. Your CPU is your brain; what you allow to enter your brain ultimately dictates your outcomes. Garbage In, Garbage Out.

It’s never too late to reset your system; upgrade your applications and reprogram your CPU.

Morning Cup of Joe – Who Are You?

She stands in front of the mirror staring at herself wondering if anything has changed. She has an image of what she feels she is supposed to look like buried in her head yet that image is incongruent with how she sees herself in reality. With eyes wide open, a hopeless gaze overcomes her eyes as she stares hopelessly at the image in front of her. She wonders why her body hasn’t changed, not taking into consideration that it has been over six months since she last visited a gym. You cannot reasonably believe and/or expect that your circumstances will change if you are not the change agent.

We have all had the unpleasant experience of having to face the man-in-the-mirror and questioned the person staring back at us. We consistently make the error of comparing ourselves to others; wondering why God did not bless us with what He seemed to freely give to them. Learn to accept the person you are. You are made in his image, and according to Him, you are perfect. If you believe that he does not make mistakes and he made you than surely you realize that he did not make a mistake when he made you. Learn to love yourself unconditionally.

Although it is important to strive for perfection, it is equally important to understand that no one is perfect. Nope; not even the person you imagined after you read that statement. Not even them. Everyone wishes they could improve some aspect of their lives. I encourage you to continuously seek opportunities that will make you better. There is nothing wrong with how you were created; you must honor and protect your temple. You already know what you have to do if you are unsatisfied with your situation; do something about it. It’s not enough to simply wish things were different; you must take charge and influence the change you seek.

It’s not who you are that holds you back, it’s who you think you’re not. – Author Unknown

Morning Cup of Joe – Speak Into Existence

What’s your personal self-talk? Meaning what do you say to yourself over and over again until either you start to believe it or it inevitably happens? Most people have no idea the amount of power their words have over their lives. Not only do your thoughts have the power to create but your words share that same power. It is absolutely true that you can speak something into existence. I have done it more times than I care to remember. If you speak success into your life, success will inevitably follow.

Do not be misled; speaking it alone is only half the battle. You must be willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that it happens. Positive thoughts plus effort multiplied by determination minus negative energy equals success. When you wake up in the morning, what do you say to yourself? It baffles me how some people actually become frustrated when they hear the blaring sound of their alarm clock. Aren’t you the one who set it? Shouldn’t you be excited to see another day? I don’t use an alarm clock but it would be music to my ears. There are some who heard their alarm clocks for the last time and did not make it to see another day, about 155,000 people to be exact.

Speak life into your dreams because you have that power. Dreams have the possibility and capability of coming true if you believe that they do. Don’t spend your life wondering what could have been, go after it and make it happen. Do not be afraid to achieve. Don’t be afraid to believe. Don’t be afraid to dream. What if I told you that in order to make your dreams come true all you had to do is say that it will come true every day? Would you believe me? Would you speak it every day?

Whatever your dream is, whether it’s to start a company, make a certain amount of money, buy your dream home or a combination of all three, it can happen if you start by believing that it will then speaking it into existence daily. Your thoughts and your words have unlimited power if you breathe life into them.

Morning Cup of Joe – Direct Your Own Path

Are you the captain of your ship and the master of your soul? Do you direct your own path or do you count on others to direct you? Do you make your own decisions or are the decisions that affect your life based on what others think you should do? Aside from assistance from a trained professional, not only is it wise but it would behoove you to make your own decisions. After all, you have to live with the outcome not the person directing you.

Advice is free which is precisely why most people seek it and most people give it. We all know that you get what you pay for. Hence, if you aren’t paying for the advice you are seeking, how much value could that advice have? Do not be misled; some advice is priceless and can certainly come from someone who is not a professional but you should certainly limit those options to people who have “been there and done that”. Most people seek advice from people who have never even been in their specific situation. That’s like asking someone to guide you through a path they’ve never traveled themselves.

Unlimited power comes from your ability to direct your own path. There is a decision that you are keeping from making perhaps because you are not sure what the outcome could be. I submit to you that you will never know until you make the first move. Stop asking others and make a decision, now, today. There are clear benefits and consequences to every decision you make. The only person that should be thinking for you is you. In short, make your own decisions and live by them. Your own two feet are the only ones that can direct your path.

Think for yourself.

Morning Cup of Joe – Mustard Seed Faith

When we set out to do something great or accomplish a goal, it seems as if the world’s obstacles are placed in your path. In my opinion, that is a great sign. Anything worth having does not come easily. In fact, anything worth having is certainly worth fighting for. It takes work, sometimes extremely hard work but it is certainly going to be worth it in the end. When was the last time you gave something your all? What were the results? Challenging or not, face every challenge with optimism and maintained a strong sense of faith that you can overcome any obstacle that is in your way.

A majority of dreams that are never realized are due to the dreamers’ lack of faith. You cannot reasonably expect to accomplish your goals if you lack the faith that keeps you afloat. You are the vessel that drives the dream and faith is the navigator. It is difficult to get where you want to go without the necessary faith and unwavering belief that you will get there. Time plays no factor here. It matters not how long it takes for you to accomplish a goal just as long as you hold on and keep fighting until you reach your desired outcome.

Faith is believing in things unseen yet working feverishly as if it was right in front of you. The reason I believe most successful people experience continuous success is a combination of not allowing quitting nor failure to be an option and having enough faith in their abilities to make it happen. If you are having trouble moving your mountain, all you need is faith the size of a mustard seed. I am not sure if you have ever seen a mustard seed but it is extremely small. If that is all the faith you need to get through your trials and tribulations then you should not have anything to worry about.

Stop looking at your obstacles as insurmountable. If you are going to beat the odds, you have got to have a little faith.

Morning Cup of Joe – Believe It Then See It

I know it may seem a little backwards but this is the way it actually works. We have heard countless people say “I got to see it to believe it” or “When I see it, I’ll believe it”. These same people most likely never saw the thing they had to see to believe. Interestingly enough, had they believed that they were going to see it, it would’ve been right there. Several seconds before the click that precedes the loud bang from a Starter, what do you suppose is going through the mind of an Olympian? Do you think these athletes believe that they will win or lose? Whichever the athlete believes, they’re right.

The fact of the matter is your thoughts become things. That which we allow to occupy our minds is what we are manifesting into our lives. Although our thoughts become things, they do not happen on their own. Most of our actions are primarily based on our belief system. You do not have to see it to believe it, believe it and you absolutely will see it. There is something that happens in the universe that allows the stars to align in order to grant us what we believe in most. Reevaluate your belief system and what you have allowed to control your thoughts. Start unequivocally believing in your dreams, and see what happens. Do not be misled, belief alone is not enough. You must meet your beliefs halfway by exerting effort into the achievement of your dreams.

Condition your brain to universally believe without fail. Condition your mind to think thoughts that are relative to your dreams and aspirations thereby creating a magnetic field of attraction kinetically drawing those things into your life. How? The unwavering belief many have in God, although we have never seen Him, must also be the same belief system shared in our dreams unseen. We must believe first that we can accomplish our goals and realize our dreams before we can see them. Your belief system dictates your ultimate outcomes. If you think you are beaten, you already are. If you believe you can win, you absolutely can.

What you believe, so shall you see.

Morning Cup of Joe – You Can’t Have It All

During a recent conversation an acquaintance exclaimed “but Joe Paul, you can’t have it all”. That particular sentence continued to hover around my thoughts through the duration of the conversation as I attempted to understand exactly what “all” meant specifically to me. I started wondering if my expectations in life were too high, so high that perhaps they were unreachable. I started wondering if this person was right about the comment they had made. I kept asking myself, can you have it all?

I quickly snapped out of it and reminded myself that of course you can have it all and then some. I think where some people go wrong is having lowered expectations of themselves and their surroundings. Too many people are satisfied with shooting the lay-up rather than taking a chance at the half-court shot. Clearly, one has a higher propensity to go in while the other may never go in at all. However, you will never know if you will make the half-court shot if you never shoot the ball. I choose to shoot from half-court because even if I miss, at least I gave it a shot. Furthermore, I will continue to shoot it until I eventually make it. Maintain the understanding that if you keep shooting, eventually one of those shots will go in.

It is perfectly fine to reach for the stars. It is perfectly fine to want the very best that life has to offer. It is perfectly fine to have great expectations. There will be people who will tell you that it is impossible. Commit to memory that what is considered impossible to some, may not be impossible to all. Just because they believe that you can’t have it all doesn’t mean that you have to adopt that debilitating mind-set. I can’t imagine living a life where I was simply ok with whatever life hands me. I want it all and that is what I am going to continue to strive for. I will not stop until I have it and neither should you.

Do not allow those without vision to distract you from yours. Define the “all” and pursue it with vigorous passion. I believe that you can have it all if that is what your heart desires. Some people don’t want to see you fly because they lack the wings to soar themselves.

Morning Cup of Joe – Be Encouraged

I woke up this morning with a particular song on my heart. I first heard this beautiful song during my sophomore year in high school. After the first time I heard it I figured out that God was talking directly to me through the song’s message. It always made me feel good and helped me strengthen my belief that hope and faith is necessary if you are going to make it through any setback, trial or tribulation. The song that was on my heart is “Be Encouraged” by William Becton.

While the entire song has a poignant message, the chorus of the song is what truly stands out the most to me; “Be encouraged, no matter what’s going on. He’ll make it alright but you’ve got to stay strong.” Being forced into independence at an early age and growing up in a group home made it nearly impossible to be encouraged especially since I missed my parents and siblings so much. I would lie up at night thinking of ending my life because I felt like no one loved me and no one cared about me. At the time, I didn’t know why I had to experience these trials but now I understand that God’s plan was in full effect.

“Trials are just a test of your faith”; this is a powerful lyric to the song. Sometimes we experience turmoil to test the strength of our faith. You have to believe that God can and he will not disappoint you. At my lowest points in life, I would simply look up and call out to God and tell Him I trust Him. I survived homelessness, physical and emotional abuse, financial issues, loss of every kind; from possessions to people. I survived hunger, depression, poverty, abandonment and feeling unwanted. What I am most grateful for is the fact that just one of the serious issues I survived claimed the lives of so many.

My friend, today I want you to be encouraged no matter what’s going on. Your problems, no matter how big they may seem to you, will never be bigger than God’s ability to fix them. You are destined for greatness. Keep your head up, stay strong and remember forward progress only.

Morning Cup of Joe – Don’t Stop Believing

You did it! You made it through another grueling day of disappointments and setbacks but you made it nonetheless. You made it through another day of criticisms while fielding the stones thrown by the constant doubters but you made it nonetheless. Today is truly a new day and you have another opportunity to get one day closer to seeing your dreams come true. Believe me, dreams do come true. To clarify, dreams do come true only if you don’t stop believing that they will.

As the sun rises, we must rise with it. We must give our dreams as much time as we give to things that do not yield the specific results we have been seeing. Imagine if you took one of the several hours you spend in front of the television and shifted that focus to accomplishing a goal or achieving your dreams; imagine the possibilities. If you do it, you won’t have to imagine. Dreams do not come true by simply dreaming much like faith without works is dead. You must work for what you want while maintaining the understanding that sooner or later you will get it. Every day that we are blessed to see presents an opportunity for us to give it our best shot just one more time; take full advantage of it.

Just because a particular dream did not come true does not mean that you should stop dreaming. That’s like getting into a car accident and giving up driving altogether. You pick up the pieces and keep it moving on to the next one. You win some and you certainly lose some; that’s what makes the journey so incredibly interesting. The thing that keeps me going on a day-to-day basis is my strong belief system. I truly believe that what I dream about has the ability to come true especially if I’m doing my best to make it come true.

Don’t stop believing in the possibility and inevitability of your dreams becoming reality. If you believe it unequivocally then you can achieve it.

Morning Cup of Joe – The Will To Win

What do you do when the whole world seems to be conspiring against you? What happens when everyone doubts your skills and abilities? How do you overcome the pressure of being great? It’s simple. You silence the doubters by winning. Most winners never seek to prove to the doubters that they can win. Our goal is to prove to ourselves that it is possible. In life, you will have people who doubt your knowledge, skills and abilities so expect it. It is imperative that you not allow these external forces to penetrate your will to win.

How you view your chances of winning is detrimental to the inevitable outcome. In fact, you are the only one who can determine whether your outcome will be favorable or not. The heart of a champion is one that knows it cannot stop until you’ve reached your desired goal. The mind of a champion is fixated on the end result at all times. You must visualize being the first to cross the finish line before you actually do and you absolutely will.

The will to win is one that no one can stop. Think back to the last time you won something, anything. What did it take for you to win? Whenever you doubt yourself, think back to the time when you were victorious and hold on to that feeling. If you felt it once, the chances of you feeling it again are pretty high. In the end, the trophy goes to the one who not only works the hardest but to the one who never doubted and always knew they were going to get it. Go and claim your trophy!

Go out there and prove to yourself that you are capable of winning. Everything else is details.
